Nestled in the charming town of Höfn, Southeast Iceland, Pakkhús Restaurant offers an unforgettable dining experience that captures the essence of Icelandic cuisine. Höfn, known as the “Lobster Capital of Iceland,” is a destination that combines stunning landscapes with culinary treasures.

During our visit, we explored this picturesque town, forged new friendships with locals who graciously helped us refine our Icelandic pronunciation, and even stumbled upon a quaint police station toward the end of our trip. But the true highlight? A visit to Pakkhús Restaurant, where every dish told a story of Iceland’s rich culinary heritage.

Exceptional Icelandic Dishes at Pakkhús Restaurant#

From start to finish, the dining experience at Pakkhús Restaurant was nothing short of extraordinary. Here’s a look at the standout dishes we indulged in:

Horse Tenderloin This dish featured tender horse tenderloin, slow-cooked to perfection and finished on the grill for a smoky, flavorful crust. It was served with crispy fried potatoes, corn on the cob, and a tangy chili-béarnaise sauce that elevated the dish’s richness.

Slow-Cooked Salmon and King Shrimps A beautifully plated combination of slow-cooked salmon and plump king shrimps stole the show. The seafood was paired with creamy mashed potatoes, a white wine cream sauce enriched with smoked cod roe, and lightly pickled beetroot for a hint of tangy sweetness.

Whole Fresh Lobster A true homage to Höfn’s reputation as a lobster haven, this dish featured a whole fresh lobster baked in white wine, cream, and herbs. It was served with a refreshing mixed salad and freshly baked bread, perfect for soaking up the indulgent sauce.
